What is Baptism?

Baptism is a public declaration of faith to show you're all in with Jesus. Once you've stepped over the Faith Line by believing in Jesus, baptism is your opportunity to affirm and celebrate your new life with God!

Baptism is a celebration of the work God has done in you. It's an opportunity for you to declare that you belong to Jesus. This is a step of obedience Jesus calls us to take, affirmed by the Apostles (Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:38-46).

Anyone who believes in Jesus! Once you've stepped over the Faith Line, this is the next step on your path of discipleship.

We go all out for baptisms! They typically happen during a weekend service so your family, friends, and the church can celebrate with you. We practice baptism by immersion (going under the water) and can expect plenty of cheers afterward. You'll even get a baptism t-shirt!

Your baptism as a baby was a special moment for your family (and may still be special to you.) And that's a great thing! At Prairie Lakes, we believe baptism is a step believers take after stepping over the Faith Line. The baptisms we read about in the Bible occurred when someone chose to believe in Jesus to publicly display their faith.

If you were baptized as a baby and believe in Jesus now, we encourage you to get baptized by immersion as an affirmation of your faith. It's also an opportunity to affirm the hopes and prayers your family had for you when they chose to baptize you as a baby!

We dedicate kids during a special occasion called Child Dedication, which you can learn more about on our children's ministry page.

Our Pastors and Elders are typically the ones to baptize you. But, if there's a family member, mentor, group leader, or significant person you'd like to have in the water with you, just let us know!

Yes! We encourage you to invite your family and friends to celebrate with you. The more the merrier!
